Nogeumsil Jeju is a project that explores the connection between people, nature, and different spaces within the quiet landscape of Sinheung-ri, Namwon-eup, Jeju. The building is composed of three separate volumes: a main residence for the owner, an accommodation building for guests, and a storage building. The volumes are divided into smaller masses that respond to the scale of the village, while muted tones allow the buildings to settle naturally into the surrounding landscape. A low stone wall and courtyard are placed between the main residence and the accommodation building, providing privacy while allowing views and landscapes to naturally intersect. Deep eaves, changes in level, and carefully positioned windows bring light, shadow, breeze, and the surrounding greenery into the architecture. Windows between rooms and views toward the courtyard allow people in different spaces to share the same landscape and sounds, creating a sense of connection while maintaining their own spaces. Nogeumsil Jeju is a place where the everyday experiences of looking at nature, listening to sounds, and connecting with people slowly become part of the architecture.
